# Commenting & Notifications

> Discuss the numbers in context with comments, and stay on top of what needs your attention with in-app and email notifications.

## What it does

Commenting lets you and your team talk about the work right where it lives, so feedback stays attached to the exact report or dashboard it refers to instead of getting lost in email. Notifications then make sure the people involved know when something needs them, whether that is a mention, a reply, or an analysis that has finished running.

## Commenting

You can add comments on your **Analyze** reports and on **dashboards**. Comments appear in a panel alongside the content, and each comment can hold a full back-and-forth thread.

### Add and manage comments

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the comments panel">
    On a report or dashboard, open the comments panel to see the discussion for that item.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a comment">
    Write your comment and post it. It appears in the panel with your name and the time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mention a teammate">
    Type `@` and start typing a name to bring up your teammates, then pick one. The person you mention is notified so they can jump straight to the thread.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reply to keep the thread going">
    Use **Reply** on a comment to respond in the same thread, so the whole conversation stays together.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Resolve when it is handled">
    Once a comment has been dealt with, mark it **Resolve** to clear it from the open list. You can **Unresolve** it later if it needs to come back.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can edit or delete your own comments and replies. Everyone with access to the item can see its comments.

### Filtering the panel

The comments panel lets you switch between **All**, **Open**, and **Resolved**, so you can focus on what still needs attention or look back at what has already been closed out. Unread comments are flagged so you can spot new activity quickly, and each comment shows where it is anchored so you know what part of the report or dashboard it refers to.

## Notifications

Notifications keep you informed without having to go looking. They collect in your **Inbox** in the sidebar, which shows a count of anything unread.

### What you get notified about

You are notified when:

* someone **@mentions** you in a comment
* someone **replies** to your comment
* someone **shares** a report, dashboard, or model with you
* a **Deep Analysis** you started **finishes** or **fails**

### Your Inbox

Open the **Inbox** to see your notifications. You can view **All** or just **Unread**, and clear everything at once with **Mark all as read**. Each notification shows who it is from, what it is about, and when it happened, and clicking one takes you straight to the comment or item it refers to.

### Choosing what reaches you

You can control which notifications you receive and how, in your notification settings. Alongside the in-app Inbox, you can choose to receive email notifications for things like mentions, replies, shared items, and analysis results, and turn off any you do not want.

## Tips

<Tip>
  Use `@mentions` when you need a specific person to act. A mention sends them a notification and links them right to your comment, which is faster than messaging them separately.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  Resolve comments as you address them to keep the panel focused on open items. Switch the filter to **Resolved** any time you need to revisit an earlier decision.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  If your Inbox feels noisy, open your notification settings and turn off the email notifications you do not need. Your in-app notifications and email notifications are controlled separately.
